Everest High Pass Trek..22 Days

Located in the eastern Himalayan Khumbu region of Nepal, the Everest High Pass region offers a wide range of trekking experiences. From the well- developed trail to Everest Base Camp to treks in remote semi-wilderness areas, there is a choice to suit all-comers. The most frequented part of the region is located in Solukhumbu district, the home of the legendary Sherpas. The northern part of the district (Khumbu) is encompassed in the Everest National Parks, which was established to protect the fragile environment of this alpine region. To the east of Everest national park is the Makalu BARUN National Park, a remote and wild stretch of mountain peaks and deep densely forested valleys. To the west is the Rolwaling valley, a well protected microcosm of cultures and ecology. The southern part of the district, Solu is much less frequented by tourists and can be a very rewarding destination in its own right. Besides Mount Everest there are three other 8000 meter peaks in the region, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu and in addition numerous other peaks of lesser altitude but no less stunning. Add to these glacial lakes, rohododendron forests, native flora and fauna, traditional villages and ancient Buddhist monasteries, all go to makes this region a spectacular destination.

This could be your first big test at around 5,400 m but the rewards at the top are absolutely amazing with Gokyo Lake, Gokyo village and the Glacier in the foreground and Mount Everest in the background. You will feel that it is the best view in the Everest region and surprisingly not many trekkers get there. Next stage is to the base of Cho La which is the access pass to Base Camp. To access the pass we crossed the glacier which is amazing in itself with 23kms of moraine built up over thousands of years. Passing ice lakes on the way to Dragnak before heading up the valley to the base of Cho la is always cold at the base (probably -5 to -10degrees) This pass is fairly difficult because of its location to the sun. It is absolutely freezing for most of the climb. At the top you will be treated to some magnificent views and slowly worked our way over the top of the glacier to start your descent. The descent from there is easy to Zhongla however the early snow could make it fairly difficult.
